Finding a Photographer

>> Tuesday, May 15, 2007

Last year we spent a great deal of time developing a better photographer search engine for PhotoReflect. If you do a search on Google, Yahoo or Live.com for “find a photographer”, “find a pro photographer” or other similar keywords you’ll see PhotoReflect will show up near the top of the results. This is a great place for photographer’s to promote their businesses and it’s FREE for photographers using PhotoReflect.

It’s also a useful resource for consumers looking for a photographer. They can search for wedding, portrait or specialty photographers in their area and quickly preview results with portfolio images and details. We have seen photographer search traffic numbers increase dramatically over the last year since upgrading this service. All good news for PhotoReflect photographers…

Now the question: How do I get placed in the top of the PhotoReflect directory?

Answer: There are a few simple things you can do to increase your ranking. We use a complex placement scheme in an attempt to provide fairness to the market (i.e. photographers selling the most are not always listed first. Here are some tips to get a higher placement:

  1. Update your Storefront: Keep your site fresh by updating to a new style at least once a year.

  2. Update your Portfolio: These are the photos potential customers will see as examples of your work. Add new photos periodically.

  3. Publish some Photos: Photographers who publish weekly are placed higher

  4. Update your About Us content: This has a minimal impact on your placement but, is a great way to promote your services for attracting leads.
That’s it. There is also one other way to get a prime placements in the directory. Google Adwords. You may notice on the search results that ads from Google appear on the right side. You can optionally purchase advertising in that space to insure your business is seen.
