Photography News that's Fit to Blog (This Week)
by Kerry Raminiak

Welcome to what may be our very last blog post of 2009. Why? – You ask? Well, news is slow for two big reasons: (1) The holidays are taking over and (2) marketing managers for photography companies (such as yours truly) are busy scrambling for the upcoming tradeshow season, kicking off with Imaging USA in Nashville January 9. (Need a badge? We’ve got them for both IUSA and WPPI here.)

Now that’s not to say we’re short on news – that’s to say the least!

Yesterday was PhotoReflect’s 10-year birthday and, in addition to that, we are celebrating 1 BILLION professional photography photo uploads. Yes: This is as significant as you think since ten years ago, not only was the internet a completely different animal than it is today, but with our launch we introduced the ability for photographers to sell their work online 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, 365-days a year! Remember when our CEO Graham McFarland said this?:

"There is no getting away from it, Internet distribution is the future… Revenue opportunities are endless. Photographers, for the first time, have an Internet storefront where customers can shop anytime."
… Well, truer words have never been so accurately prognosticated, and well, we’re pretty proud. Check out where PhotoReflect began and what it has turned into: Click here to read our press release on the subject dated December 6, 1999; Click here to read the most recent press release on the completely new and improved PhotoReflect dated September 29, 2009.
IN ADDITION! Facebook fans and attentive Twitter followers will be winning cool things every day this week! Be sure to sign up and get in on the festivities!

Cleaning up our “Favorites” folder
The end of the year also gives us time to reflect on a few of our favorite things. Since the blog has been publishing online photography insights for inspiration, we have been collecting items that may have not made it to our weekly reflection or did not get enough love when first published. So, without further ado, here are a few goodies that were our favorite photography places of 2009:

** The New York Times’ interactive photo gallery of the fall of the Berlin Wall 20 years ago. **

** My Parents Were Awesome – a collaborative photo blog of people’s parents when they were hip and beautiful. **

** Michael Lavine’s blog gives you insight to the fabulous world of celebrity photography and it goes a long way in reminding me and my photographers that the perils of getting that great shot, whether they are celebrities like his, or not, like mine, have very similar headaches. **

** Digital Photography Schools Library of Tips & Tutorials… the whole thing. Thank you DPS for your treasure trove of goodies. Without you I would not have had the successes I needed to be confident is everything I shot out of my comfort zone this year… from my 4th of July fireworks experiment and the magnificence waiting for me on Halloween, to your quick marketing tips, thoughts on photographing skateboarders and everything in-between. **

One last announcement
The last PhotoReflect webinar of the year is scheduled for December 16th at 3:00pm Eastern. This is your chance to get selling online AND to tell your photography customers where to get what will, undoubtedly, be their favorite holiday gifts: On your site! Click here to sign up.
